VSOs Participate in N.C. Stand Down Resource Fair

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veteran service officers (VSOs) Paula Tuero-Flesch and Yolonda Crumpton participated in the Scotland County (N.C.) Stand Down veterans event, a one-stop resource fair for veterans held March 7 at the National Guard Amory in Laurinburg.

The VSOs put together an attractive, informational display of VVA services and benefits, distributing printouts on PACT Act eligibility, Blue Water Navy information and a quick reference guide to VA forms. Copies of multiple VA claims forms were on hand, and the VSOs offered their assistance with claims.

Several Vietnam veterans stopped by the VVA table to request information on Agent Orange, the PACT Act and pending claims. Most were already rated at 100% disability.

Representatives from Veterans Affairs, homeless and housing advocates, church groups, and other organizations also appeared at the event. The VSOs communicated with fellow service providers to assist with veteran housing, job placement, food assistance and benefits access.

“It was a rewarding experience, and I’m glad we were a part of it,” Crumpton says.

Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
