Indiana Survivors Get Benefits

Veteran service officers can often help the spouses and children of a deceased veteran access survivors’ benefits. Indiana VSOs posted several “wins” for veteran family members last year.

One woman received Dependency & Indemnity Compensation (DIC) six years after her husband, a Vietnam veteran, died of a presumptive service-connected condition. Another accessed DIC following her husband’s extended battle with Parkinson’s.

Another woman was granted a survivor’s pension following her husband’s death, although it wasn’t service-connected. And following extensive research that tied drug use to PTSD, the toddler daughter of a divorced veteran who died of an overdose accessed DIC.

Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
