Discharged Veteran Finds Housing After 40 Years

A female veteran who was discharged “Under Honorable Conditions” from the U.S. Army in 1984 recently visited Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans of America VSOs to seek help with housing. Before leaving the service, she had been told various times by different people that she wouldn’t qualify for benefits because of the kind of discharge she received.

The VSO counseled the veteran on the benefits for which she was eligible. She was soon provided with housing at the Sgt. Gomez Veterans Campus in Springfield and referred to the Veterans Outpatient Clinic, where she is undergoing treatment for her medical needs. The veteran was appreciative and emotional to finally receive benefits.

Find a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with a claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
